The workbench got 12 feet of hash marks in 1 inch increments because I’m tired of grabbing the tape measure/ square/ ruler/ framing level/etc. Most of the stuff I do doesn’t need to be super precise. I’m building something to hold various types of hose, so they’re organized, easily accessible and all in one place.
How's you pre, pre, pre Friday going?

This is not laziness , this is efficiency. M ore people need to learn the difference.

True. I like to think that my inherant laziness is what motivates me to increase efficiency and design systems that require as little upkeep on my part as possible

It is parts lazy and inefficient. Countersink a custom made measuring guide and you have set off down the right road.
I’m only partially joking. Marker lines could last 10 years or 10 days.

Work smarter not harder.
You should spray some clear over the marks so they don’t rub off too easily

Seems like a good idea to me. If you want it to look fancy, buy an adhesive workbench ruler, and then you have a nice, clean, durable metal measuring guide on there.

That is genius. I need to do that to my computer desk too.

Or is efficiency just clever laziness?

It’s like how a rectangle can be a square, but a square can never be a rectangle. Laziness can be efficiency, but efficiency can never be laziness .

Make me wish we had more than 1x1ft free on the workbench at any time. Grind this into the front edge of it and maybe fill in the letters? would look nice!

I might do that. Although if I'm going to do a version 2 of this.... I kinda want to grind the lines in, then fill them with luminescent stuff, kinda like gun sights. Totally unnecessary, totally awesome

This is also handy for fabric cutting needs, assuming you grind in a little groove to fit the lower part of the scissors (If you make it deep enough, and add a straight rail you could use it with a Skilsaw as well.)

I did this at work on a shelf upright marked off 6-1ft sections for cutting the bulk heater hose.
